Explore a new side of Trinidad.
HADCO Experiences is inviting travellers to uncover a different side of Trinidad - but what exactly does that look like?
Their two signature eco-lodges - HADCO Experiences at Asa Wright Nature Centre and Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel - provide the base for guests to explore Trinidad not as tourists, but as participants in the island’s living culture, extraordinary biodiversity and vibrant community spirit.
The birdwatching boom comes to life at HADCO Experiences at Asa Wright Nature Centre
According to the RSPB, interest in birdwatching has increased by 47% in the UK since 2018 - this number rises to 1,088% for Gen Z-ers making it their second most popular hobby (after jewellery making). Located within the rainforested Arima Valley rainforest, the Asa Wright Nature Centre is internationally celebrated as one of the world’s premier birdwatching destinations where more than 170 species can be spotted throughout the reserve.
Originally part of the historic Spring Hill Estate, the Asa Wright Nature Centre gained global recognition when Asa Wright opened her home to researchers, artists and adventurers in the 1950s and 60s. In 2023 HADCO Experiences carefully restored the Main House and 29 surrounding guest rooms, preserving the estate’s historic character while reopening it to a new generation of travellers.
Guests wake to the sound of Toucans and tropical songbirds echoing through the forest canopy and can sit on the verandah marvelling at abundant Hummingbirds, Honeycreepers and Tanagers. More than 10 miles of protected trails can be enjoyed independently or with expert local guides, while standout excursions include a visit to the nocturnal Oilbird colony at nearby Dunston Cave and immersive nighttime nature walks.
Beyond its natural beauty, a stay at Asa Wright Nature Centre offers a deeper connection to Trinidadian culture through homemade cuisine, storytelling, music and interactions with guides whose affinity with the forest has been passed down through generations. Families can discover opportunities for education, exploration and adventure; wellness travellers can embrace moments of stillness and restoration; and adventure seekers can encounter some of the Caribbean’s most untouched natural landscapes.
Front row seat to Leatherback turtle nesting at Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel
On Trinidad’s dramatic northeast coast, Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel sits along Grande Riviere beach - home to the world’s highest density nesting site for Leatherback turtles. Offering a front row seat to one of nature’s most extraordinary spectacles - as featured by David Attenborough in Blue Planet II - the hotel delivers an authentic Caribbean escape rooted in simplicity, nature and community. The hotel reopened in 2023 as an elevated retreat for those in-the-know, and in 2026 Mt. Plaisir Estate Hotel was ranked #15 in Tripadvisor’s® Travellers’ Choice® Awards Best of the Best: Small & Boutique Hotels in the Caribbean.
Guests can spend their days hiking rainforest trails to hidden waterfalls, kayaking in the river, exploring the coastline in a traditional pirogue or simply relaxing on the beach. From March to July, thousands of Leatherback turtles come ashore each night to lay their eggs beneath the moonlight - more than 4,000 turtles were recorded in April 2026 with a peak of 268 in just one night - while July and August mark the emergence of hatchlings making their way back to the ocean.
The hotel serves as a gateway to one of Trinidad’s most inspiring success stories. Guests can engage with local residents who have led environmental initiatives and revived artisan businesses, with these community partnerships forming a central part of the HADCO Experiences philosophy.

Both properties welcome guests on an all-inclusive basis with prices starting from $250 per person per night (excluding alcohol). Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included, as well as afternoon tea at Asa Wright Nature Centre, with menus celebrating the diversity and flavour of Trinidadian cuisine.
